Paul the Outdoor Movie Guy

Back in the 1990s, Paul, known as the Outdoor Movie Guy, attended his first outdoor film screening at a VW festival in the UK and instantly fell in love with the experience. Watching Blade Runner on a massive screen from his vintage ’68 Bug was unforgettable for him.

Inspired to share this enthusiasm with his young family, Paul began organizing movie nights. When he introduced his children to Star Wars, he insisted it be on a big screen. As his collection of equipment grew, so did the idea of turning this passion into a business. His mother-in-law once remarked that he should consider making it a business venture.

With expertise in Recreation Management and Information Technology and a love for cinema, FunFlicks San Francisco Bay Area was launched in 2009. Over time, additional locations were established, enabling his team to offer outdoor movie experiences throughout Northern California, Oregon, and Northern Nevada.

Paul takes great pleasure in crafting experiential events and enjoys guiding clients through organizing their movie nights. Whether collaborating with film festivals, setting up retro-style drive-ins, partnering with Parks and Recreation departments or hosting birthday parties for kids like little Johnny’s—it’s all about fostering community through shared cinematic experiences.

Always exploring how technology can enhance these events further, Paul has incorporated features like Silent Cinema setups, Red-Carpet photo booths, Hashtag printers or even professional photographers at gatherings.

His team is eager to help you create an exceptional outdoor movie event!
